WHO IS GIORGIA MELONI ?

Giorgia Meloni, whose political party, with its neo-fascist roots, Italys brothers, emerged victorious in last years elections. Her political party, with its neo-fascist roots, Italys brothers, emerged victorious in last years elections, was sworn in on Saturday as Italys first far-right prime minister since the end of the Second World War. The nationalist Brotherhood of Italy has neo-fascist roots, but Giorgia Meloni sought to present a moderate image in campaigning, ditching earlier comments about the European Central Bank and vowing to keep Italy in the center of Europe and Western institutions. The Fratelli dItalia, or the Italian Brothers, which Giorgia Meloni co-founded in 2012, would govern in coalition with the right-wing Lega, or coalition led by Matteo Salvini, and the conservative party Forza Italia, led by the octogenarian stalwart Silvio Berlusconi. Giorgia Meloni has led the right-most Italian government — including Matteo Salvinis far-right League and Silvio Berlusconis Forza Italia — since World War II.

ROME, October 22 (Reuters) — Giorgia Meloni was sworn in on Saturday as Italys first female prime minister, along with her Cabinet team, giving the country its most right-wing government since the Second World War. ROME — Giorgia Meloni completed a revolutionary rise in Italian politics on Saturday, being sworn in as the countrys first woman prime minister, giving her once-fringe party a level of power previously unattainable by other far-right forces in western Europe.

WHAT POLITICAL PARTY DOES GIORGIA MELONI IDENTIFY WITH ?

Forza Italia, while declining in popularity, was often seen as being more centrist than its partners, who included Melonis Fratelli dItalia and Matteo Salvini-led Lega. Last months general elections saw a coalition of extreme-right and centre-right parties, led by his Italian Ultraconservative Brotherhood, gain enough seats in the Italian Parliament to form a government. As party leader, she decided to create an alliance with the Lega party (Lega), led by Salvini, running multiple political campaigns alongside it to oppose a centre-left government led by the Partito Democratico (PD), positioning FdI in Eurosceptic, right-wing populist positions. Her once-fringe party has gained traction consistently in the past five years, despite her links with earlier post-fascist parties — a result that some experts said could have happened only because Meloni represented such a departure from a familiar brand of politics.

Melonis ceremonial swearing-in to Italian President Sergio Mattarella took place Saturday, after her Italian Brotherhood party won over 25% of the vote in the last snap elections of September. Brother Italys leader, Giorgia Meloni, reads the Italian governments list of ministers to the media after handing it over to Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Oct. 21, 2022, at the Quirinale presidential palace in Rome. The audio of Berlusconis speech sent shockwaves through the Meloni coalition, after Meloni made a concerted effort during the campaign to assure Italys Western allies about Italys pro-NATO position and support of Ukraine in the conflict.

Meloni ran a platform of God, Country, and Family, raising fears of right-wing regression in Italy. Melonis frequent alignments with far-right Spanish party Vox and Hungarys Orban — the latter was recently accused of failing to uphold the rule of law — has raised eyebrows across bloc members. Another key ministry, defence, is headed by his partys Brotherhood of Italy co-founder and Melonis closest advisor, Guido Crosetto — an expert on defence industries, who heads Italys Federation of Aerospace Companies.

IF WW3 BREAKS OUT WHO WILL ITALY SIDE WITH ?

As Professor Luciano Cheles told The Guardian, her partys posters, pamphlets and hymns feature fascist images, with Giorgia Melonis rhetoric at times echoing those of Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini, the famously founded Fascist party. Giorgia Meloni, whose father was a Fascist dictator, Benito Mussolini, said Tuesday she has never had any sympathy with regimes, including fascism, adding that she has always considered Mussolinis racial laws in 1938 the lowest moment in Italian history. In early official communications of her new government, Meloni was referred to several times as the Presidente del Consiglio, Italys formal title of Prime Minister and Head of State. Now, the country will be led by a woman, Gorgia Meloni.

In December 2012, Meloni, Ignazio La Russa, and Guido Crosetto founded the Brotherhood of Italy (FdI), a new political movement with its name coming from a line in Italys anthem. In 1992, Meloni joined the Young Front, a youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), a neo-fascist political party founded in 1946 by former followers of Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. His Italian brothers and sisters party rallied their supporters around an aggressive agenda opposing the European Union and the international financial markets.
